cleft for me

…my rock, my fortress” — Psalm 18:2

Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my
deliverer,
my God, my rock in whom I take
refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my
salvation, my stronghold.

~ Psalm 18:2

MEDITATION: Strange. No one has ever seen God, let alone touched him. Still, the most “solid" experience we have is with God. This psalm, in a sequence of stunning images and affirmations, recounts the experience.

PRAYER:
"While I draw this fleeting breath,
when my eyelids close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
see Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee."
And Amen.

(Augustus M. Toplady, "Rock of Ages")
