Secret Church 2024
An evening that could change your life.
Years ago, my best friend Carl became a part of making a remarkable event possible at a new level. Because of his involvement, I was eager to watch and take part. That event was Secret Church, and it opened my eyes to bible study and missions in a new way.
What is Secret Church?
Years ago, David Platt taught and ministered among underground Asian house churches where believers were forced to gather in secret, sometimes at the risk of their own lives due to hostility from the government, from the surrounding community, and even from their own families. Secret Church is an opportunity for us to gather and intensely study the Bible and pray like and for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world.
Radical’s Secret Church is a unique, one-night event that happens annually.
Encouraged by our persecuted brothers’ and sisters’ example, we will meet for nearly 6 hours for intense study of God’s Word and passionate prayer for the persecuted.
What should you expect, if you decide to take part? (which I hope you will!)
STUDY: Take a 6 hour deep dive to study God’s epic tale of redemption in the story of Ruth. It’s a story that reminds us that each of our lives–no matter how ordinary they may sometimes seem and no matter how difficult they may sometimes be–is indeed a part of a plan much larger than ourselves and much more thrilling than we could ever imagine.
PRAY: This year we will explore the story of the persecuted church in North Korea, considered by many the most hostile-to-Christians country in the world. Together we will pray and support our brothers and sisters in North Korea, Cambodia, Indonesia and other persecuted places.
ACT: We will be challenged to live on mission–in our neighborhoods and to the nations.
Why the book of Ruth?
Ruth has all the elements of a love story. Tragedy. Loss. Despair. Hope. Triumph. Loyalty. Romance. But it’s more than just a love story. It’s a epic story within a story. It’s a story not just about Ruth, but about all of us and a world that’s in need of redemption. And in the end, I can’t wait to show you how your story is a part of this story.
Don’t let the 6 hour commitment intimidate you. You can do this! The first time I attended, I too was overwhelmed at the thought of sitting for 6 hours and taking in teaching. But every year, the evening of Word, prayer, videos on missions, and breaks spending time chatting with other participants just flies by. And I’ve never been sorry I’ve participated.
If you live in Salida or the Arkansas River Valley, I invite you to come and attend Secret Church with us at Grace Church, where we will be live-streaming the event in our sanctuary, and providing a variety of light snacks (think: charcuterie board) and beverages — all for free!
